Bolzano, 27 October 2026 – A snow holiday in South Tyrol does not necessarily mean staying in a hotel. For those who love skiing but also want to rediscover the quiet of nature, the warmth of family hospitality and the genuine flavours of farming traditions, Gallo Rosso farm stays offer an alternative that can turn a week on the slopes into an authentic experience. Around 500 Gallo Rosso farm stays are located less than five kilometres from a ski area: a network of welcoming rural retreats offering a choice between South Tyrol’s large ski areas and small village lifts, ideal for those who prefer a more relaxed pace on the snow.
From the Dolomites to Val Pusteria, every farm has its own identity, tied to the history of the family who runs it and the surrounding landscape. After a day on the slopes, guests return to comfortable apartments, often featuring wood and natural materials, for a restorative break away from the bustle of the most popular resorts. Waking up brings the taste of good things: fresh milk, yoghurt, eggs, homemade bread, honey, jams and other specialities made with the farm’s produce accompany breakfast, reviving the pleasure of simple, genuine cooking deeply rooted in the local area. Meeting the farming family makes the stay special too: they open the doors to their everyday lives, explain their agricultural work and suggest routes, activities and lesser-known places to discover during the holiday. And when it is time to alternate skiing with other experiences, South Tyrol’s winter offers walks through snowy woods, snowshoe excursions, tobogganing and cross-country skiing trails.

Among the properties offering this combination of sport and rural life is Mair am Graben in Terento, a three-flower farm stay overlooking the mountains. Guests can choose between apartments and holiday homes, including a wooden chalet with a fireplace, panoramic terrace and private sauna. Breakfast showcases the farm’s produce, from milk and yoghurt to eggs, honey and jams, while anyone wishing to get closer to farming life can join in everyday activities and help in the barn. The Plan de Corones ski area is around 18 kilometres away, while a cross-country trail and a toboggan run are about 1.2 kilometres away: an option for combining days on skis with more relaxed moments in nature.
In Tesido, in the municipality of Monguelfo-Tesido, Wibmerhof welcomes guests to a four-flower farm stay particularly suited to families with children. Its central village location, in the 3 Cime Dolomites region, makes it easy to organise days on the snow, while spaces for younger guests and the opportunity to watch the animals being cared for and fed offer an introduction to life on the farm. Here too, breakfast brings homemade produce to the table, including milk, yoghurt, eggs, jams and syrups. For skiing enthusiasts, Plan de Corones, in the Valdaora area, is around 10 kilometres away; the cross-country trail is just 200 metres away, and a bus stop directly at the farm makes getting around easier.

Nearby, in Rasun-Anterselva, Peterer-Hof stands on the edge of Rasun di Sotto, at the entrance to the Valle di Anterselva, in a peaceful setting with views of the Valdaora mountains and the valley. The farm, which combines livestock farming with woodworking, offers beautiful, comfortable apartments. Guests can visit the barn and discover the family’s daily activities, as well as enjoy farm products such as milk, yoghurt, eggs, honey and jams. The Plan de Corones ski area, reached from the Valdaora area, is around six kilometres away, while nearby routes lead towards Lake Anterselva and the famous Lake Braies for those wishing to discover the charm of the Dolomites’ winter landscapes too.
An experience particularly close to the slopes awaits at Gemangerhof in Sant’Andrea, above Bressanone. Rated four flowers, the farm stands at around 1,000 metres above sea level in a sunny, panoramic location surrounded by mountains. Its apartments and studio provide an ideal base for families, who can meet the farm animals and enjoy special moments in nature, including pony walks. Homemade products such as yoghurt, butter, eggs, jams and syrups reach the table, while proximity is one of the main advantages for snow enthusiasts: the Plose ski area and a toboggan run are both around 500 metres away, and guests can even set off directly from the farm for a toboggan descent.

A winter holiday on Gallo Rosso farms offers the chance to experience the mountains at an unhurried pace, have snow close at hand and connect with South Tyrol’s rural soul.
Gallo Rosso
Gallo Rosso is the brand that has promoted and supported what are now 1,600 farm stays in South Tyrol since 1998, and belongs to the South Tyrolean Farmers’ Union (Südtiroler Bauernbund). From the outset, its main purpose has been to help farmers develop activities alongside agriculture. The philosophy of the Gallo Rosso association is “Bringing people closer to the lifestyle of South Tyrolean farmers”. The project aims both to open up new sources of income for farmers and to give consumers the opportunity to discover South Tyrol’s farming world. Farms offering accommodation (farm holidays in South Tyrol) are classified from two to five flowers: the higher the number of flowers, the more criteria the property meets. Through high quality standards and very strict criteria, the association also supports more than 120 farms dedicated to producing genuine food products (Farm Delicacies), rural dining or authentic crafts (Farm Handcrafts). The newest pillar, launched in 2023, is the Gallo Rosso Cookery School.
